Privacy & contributions
Your account and location
Accounts are optional for search. We use your email for account access, verification and recovery. Your saved lists are private. Precise search coordinates and raw location queries are not stored in analytics, access logs, error traces or usage events. Your current search is kept in this browser tab to support returning to results; closing the tab clears that session storage.
Map providers receive map requests needed to display your selected area. Directions links open an external service using the place’s location.
Permission to publish contributions
Only submit content you created or have permission to license. You keep ownership of your original content. By submitting, you grant Nearest a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual and irrevocable licence to store, reproduce, modify, translate, display, distribute and sublicense that contribution, including through our apps, public place data and developer API, for operating and improving the service. This licence survives account deletion. It does not override third-party source licences.
We may correct, crop, resize, re-encode or remove submissions. Photos are stripped of embedded metadata. Pending contributions and quarantined photos are private until approved. Contributors with enough independently accepted contributions can have new factual contributions published automatically, subject to moderation and reversal. Current community reports publish a pseudonymous contributor identifier and receipt timestamp. Reported place coordinates are intentionally public evidence, unlike private search coordinates. Reports expire by facility type; submitting a report does not establish a verified fact. Do not submit private information, unlawful content, copied commercial-map reviews or photos you do not have rights to share.
Deletion and retention
Deleting your account revokes sessions and API keys and removes private saved lists. Published factual contributions may be retained to preserve useful place information and its review history, with unnecessary account identifiers removed. Unpublished contributions and all your photo uploads, including approved photos, are deleted. Photo deletion and takedown remove public derivatives.
Restricted moderation and administrative records document decisions and help investigate misuse. Public responses exclude account contact details and private moderation notes. You can manage your account at Account in the main navigation.
